About the LOCK-DOWN song-writing challenge
Great artists, we need you to make some great art in this time of stress, uncertainty, and disruption! Please consider this challenge to create something beautiful in these trying times. All songs will be shared. Our panel of judges will evaluate the songs for top prizes, including donated goods and services. The date to submit your quarantine song is May 9, with submissions as a text document and a video link on Youtube.
RULES
1) The song has to have been written (at least lyrically) since March of 2020, and in a scenario where the narration and lyrics are coming from a position of a world fighting the spread of a pandemic with lock-downs and quarantines disrupting normal life. Essentially, the song comes from a post COVID-19 perspective.
2) The lyrics can take any direction and can be partially ambiguous, but it should be clear that this song was written during this time. Without sacrificing the story or any of the songwriting craft and style, try to think of this as something that will have cultural importance in the future. Essentially, don't be so ambiguous that it's unclear when/where/why this song was written.
3) Submissions will be in the form of an email including 2 documents
Lyrics in text or a word format. Pdfs acceptable as well.
Link to a Youtube upload of audio and video performance including a visual of the singer-songwriter performing the song. (lyrics should be included in the Youtube upload
4) Additional rules and FAQ borrowed from NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Many of you are aware of, or have submitted to NPR Tiny Desk Concert competitions. We want artists to be able to use this song also for that submission, however the Tiny Desk Concert rules state that the video cannot be used elsewhere first, and that the video must be specifically for the TIny Desk Competition. Essentially, for us the song needs to be written for this competition (or in the circumstances above), and for Tiny Desk Competition the video must be created for their competition. If you want to use the same song for both, I suggest two recordings, one with and one without a desk. We are otherwise are following their rules including their list of FAQs https://tinydeskcontest.npr.org/2020/2020-deadline-extended-faqs/
